“Box Office Battle” is The Fly’s weekly roundup of what movies topped the weekend’s box office.
Tim Burton’s sequel “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” won the North American box office with a $110M debut. The Warner Bros.’ (WBD) movie delivered the second-biggest September opening of all time. Overseas, “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” earned an estimated $35M from 69 markets. The move received a B+ CinemaScore and sports a Rotten Tomatoes critics score of 76%.
BOX OFFICE RUNNER-UPS: Disney (DIS) and Marvel’s “Deadpool & Wolverine” placed number 2 with $7.2M in its seventh weekend for a global tally of $1.257M. Behind it was the indie Ronald Reagan biopic “Reagan” with $5.2M for a 10-day domestic cume of $18.5M. Disney and 20th Century’s “Alien: Romulus” placed number 4 with another $4M for a global cume of $314.4M. Rounding out the top five, Sony‘s (SONY) “It Ends With Us” grossed an estimated $3.8M as it crossed the $300M mark globally.
